The entry is: Elizabeth Phoenix, born Upper Canada, Wesleyan Methodist, age 1, female, female family member. She appeared on the census of 17 April 1871 in the household of Benjamin Phoenix at Scott Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. She is recorded as: Fenicks, Emly, female aged 10, born in Ontario, W. Methodist religion, of English origin, going to school. She appeared on the census of 25 April 1881 in the household of Benjamin Phoenix at Scott Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. She is listed as: Phoenix, Emily, female aged 20, born in Ontario, C. Methodist religion, of English origin, unmarried. She and James Edwin Spence, son of Edward Spence and Jane (?) Spence, were married by Reverend John Pook on Wednesday, 8 February 1882 at Zephyr, Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. This registration is very hard to read. He was listed as single, bookkeeper, Methodist, she was listed as single, Bible Christian. Silas Phoenix and Flora Haines witnessed the marriage. She appeared on the census of 21 April 1891 in the household of James Edwin Spence at St. Laurence Ward, Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada. She is recorded as: Spence, Emily, female, 30, married, wife, born Ontario, both parents born Ontario, Methodist, able to read and write. She and Elias Albert McCarthy were married on Wednesday, 7 November 1923 at the manse, Fort William, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada. She was 63, widow, Methodist, living in Fort William, born Ontario. He was 73, widower, retired, Methodist. Emily died on Monday, 2 May 1927 at The Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 66 years, 3 months and 12 days, due to an appendicular abscess. She had undergone surgery to drain the abscess on April 27 1927 and she also had diabetes militus. Dr. G. R. Balfour attended at the death. Elias Albert McCarthy was listed as the informant. She was buried on Sunday, 8 May 1927 at Block 23, Plot 19, Mountain View Cemetery, Fort William, Thunderbay District, Ontario, Canada.
