     Samuel Cockett was also known as Samuel Cook. He was baptized by Minister Joseph Wilson, Sunday, 10 March 1816 at the Wesleyan Church, Sandhurst, Kent Co., England. He and Caroline Booth were married by Weslyean Minister John Baxter on Monday, 14 April 1845 at Markham Twp., Home District, Ontario, Canada. Henry Booth and Daniel Strickler witnessed the marriage. After 14 April 1845, Samuel Cockett changed his name to Samuel Cook. Apparently he had a falling out with his family in England over money, came to Canada, and changed his surname. He appeared as household head on the census of 1861 at Whitchurch Twp., York Co., Ontario, Canada. He was recorded as: Samuel Cook, farmer, born England, Wesleyan Methodist, age 45, male, married, male family member, living in a one storey log house, one family living in it. Caroline Cook, Jesse Cook, Samuel D. Cook, John A. Cook, Henry Cook, James Cook, William Charles Cook, Caroline Frances Cook, David Cook, Albert Cook and Elizabeth Cook also appeared in the household.
