Alexander William Whittier

     Alexander William Whittier was also known as Alex Witter. He was born in 1843 at Scarborough Twp., York Co., Ontario, Canada. He appeared on the census of 1861 in the household of Benjamin Phoenix at Concession 12, Lot 14, Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada West. He was recorded as: Witter, Alex, labourer, born Upper Canada, Primative Methodist, 17, male, non-family member. He and Emily Jane Woon, daughter of Richard Woon and Emma (?) Woon, were married by W. Jeffers on Thursday, 29 July 1869 at Oshawa, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada. He was 25, living in Reach, born in Scarborough, bachelor. She was 18, living in Reach, born Oshawa, spinster. W. B. Harvey and Sophia M. Woon witnessed the marriage. Alexander died on Saturday, 3 October 1925 at Whitchurch, York Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 82 years, of nephritis due to uremic posioning. His surname was recorded as Whitter, father and mother born in Pennsylvannia, Dutch origin. Dr. S. S. Ball attended at the death. Jefferson Whittier was listed as the informant. He was buried on Tuesday, 6 October 1925 at Bethel Cemetery, Greenbank, Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada, at 10 a.m. .
