John Phillip Plank was born on Sunday, 5 June 1796 at Manheim, Montgomery Co., New York, USA. He and Polly Pickert, daughter of Bartholomew Pickert and Dorothy Bishop, were married. He emigrated in 1826 from New York, USA, to Uxbridge, Ontario, immediately built a frame house and a tavern on the front part of his lot. This was the principal hotel between Duffin's Creek and Beaverton. He built the first store in Uxbridge in 1830 and stocked it with goods brought from Oshawa. He appeared as household head on the census of 1851 at Uxbridge, Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. He was enumerated as: John P Plank, Inn Keeper, born New York State, Dutch Reform, age 57, male, married, male family member, 1 child attending school, living in a brick 2 storey house, tavern. Polly Plank, Alonzo C. W. Plank, Polly Plank and Sarah Ann Plank also appeared in the household. John died on Friday, 16 June 1876 at Uxbridge, Reach Twp., Ontario, Canada, at age 80 years and 11 days. He was buried at Uxbridge Cemetery, Uxbridge, Reach Twp., Ontario, Canada.
