Maria Wells

     Maria Wells was also known as Maria Phoenix. She was born circa 1846 at Ontario, Canada. She appeared on the census of 1871 in the household of James Phoenix at Scarborough Twp., York Co., Ontario, Canada. She was recorded as: Pheonix, Maria, female, 25, born Ontario, P. Methodist, able to read and write. She and William Jones, son of Job Jones and Margaret (?) Jones, were married by Reverend John Carroll on Wednesday, 29 September 1875 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada. She was 29, single, born and living in Scarborough, Methodist. He was 32, widower, born in Scarborough, living in Markham, labourer. John Cooper and B. Carroll witnessed the marriage.
