He attended at the death of James Leroy Spence. He appeared as household head on the census of 21 April 1891 at St. Laurence Ward, Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada. He is recorded as: Spence, James E, male, 32, married, head, born Ontario, father born Ireland, mother born Ontario, Methodist, Street Car Conductor, wage earner, able to read and write. Emily Spence and Franklin Harford Spence also appeared in the household. James died on Tuesday, 12 September 1911 at 216 S. May Street, Fort William, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada, at age 52 years, 11 months and 25 days, of chronic suppuratine, ottitis media (?), and a brain abscess. Dr. (?) Hunt attended at the death. Franklin Harford Spence was listed as the informant. He was buried at Block 23, Plot 19, Mountain View Cemetery, Fort William, Thunderbay District, Ontario, Canada.
