He was going from Lexington to his home, carrying a washboard under his arm and while crossing a creek, stepping from stone to stone, he slipped and fell on the washboard puncturing his side. During the resulting illness, his brother Henry (almost 75 years old) walked all the way from Ingersol to Sanilac county to visit his ailing brother. Mark died in June 1845 at Worth Twp., Sanilac Co., New York, USA, at age 74 years and 8 months. He was buried at the Bardwell Cemetery, Worth Twp., Sanilac Co., New York, USA.
