John Reid Phoenix

     John Reid Phoenix was born in 1817 at Canada. He and Elizabeth Bassingthwaite were married by Reverend William Hurlburt on Tuesday, 13 August 1844 at Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. His surname was written as Pharnix. David Cragg and Jonathan Bassingthwaite witnessed the marriage. He appeared as household head on the census of 1851 at Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. The personal enmueration for this district does not exist. He is recorded on the agricultural census as: Phoenix, John, concession 11, lot 14, 60 acres, 40 acres under cultivation, 25 1/2 acres under crops, 13 acres under pasture, 1 1/2 acres under orchards or gardens, 20 acres under wood or wild, 10 acres under wheat porduced 100 bushels. He appeared as household head on the census of 1861 at Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. He was listed as: J Phenoix, Independant, born Upper Canada, Wesleyan Methodist, age 44, male, married, male family member, 2 storey frame house with one family living in it. His wife's father is living next door. Elizabeth Phoenix and Edward Phoenix also appeared in the household. He was listed in the 1877 Reach Twp., Ontario Co. Atlas as owning the following land: Concession 11, Lot 14 of 40 acres, Concession 11, Lot 13 of 100 acres, Concession 11, Lot 12 consisting of two separate listings of 38 and 66 acres.
