     William Hodgkinson was born on Thursday, 12 August 1751. In his petition for additional land, he and wife Mary state they were settlers in this District (Newark) since 1784. He and Mary Jones, daughter of James Jones and Christianah Folch, were married c 1786. He appeared on the Return of Loyalists & Disbanded Troops of 17 September 1787, West from Mill Creek, district of Niagara, Upper Canada. He was listed as a head of household with 1 woman and 1 girl. He had 5 acres of land cleared and 3 bushels of wheat sowen. Total persons 3. He petitioned for land on Wednesday, 20 May 1795 from Niagara, Lincoln Co., Upper Canada. He is praying for an additional 100 acres and 200 acres for his wife, as a discharged soldier and a daughter of a loyalist. An image of the petition can be viewed here. He petitioned again for land on Tuesday, 18 August 1795 from Newark, Lincoln Co., Upper Canada. He is praying for the 100 acres due him as a discharged soldier and for a small addition thereto for his family. He states he has two children and has received 200 acres of land, whereon he lives. William died c Sunday, 21 February 1847 at Grantham Twp, Lincoln Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 95 years, 6 months and 9 days.
